Decisions about Medical SchoolWelcome to Linalita's Medical Terms Glossary. Have you ever felt as though you and your doctor were speaking different languages?

Sometimes even words that you think that you understand can have a different meaning to your doctor. For example, let us say that you take your temperature and find that it is 99.5 degrees (37.5C). You contact your doctor and inform her that you have a fever. But she responds that you do not have a fever.

What?

To you, a normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees (37C) and anything above that is a fever. However, the actual medical definition of a fever is a body temperature at or above 100.4 degrees (38C). It seems that sometimes you and your doctor actually are speaking a different language, but using the same words!

What can you do about it?

If medical information does not make sense, ask your physician or health-care professional to explain it to you. You also can use Linalita's Medical Terms Glossary to learn about the meanings of medical words.

More Than A Science Terms Dictionary

Unlike other Internet resources that simply repeat definitions from a published science terms dictionary or medical conditions dictionary, Linalita's Medical Terms Glossary goes one step further.

Why?

A science terms dictionary or medical conditions dictionary often uses technical language that leaves people even more confused than they were before they started. Our research indicates that most people search for information that they can understand and use quickly. For this reason, we provide accurate explanations of medical terms that are presented in plain language. If the use of technical language is unavoidable, we either explain it in context or provide a link to another page that offers an accurate easy-to-understand explanation.

Our Promise

Our goal at Linalita's Medical Terms Glossary is to provide you with easy-to-understand information about the language of science and medicine, and to help clear up misconceptions, so that you can have an informed conversation with your doctor. However, under no circumstances should the explanations of medical terms presented here be considered a substitute for an ongoing consultation with your doctor.

We hope that you will find Linalita's Medical Terms Glossary a useful reference and will return to visit us often.
